Seed Starting / Nursery: Seed starting marks the hopeful beginning of the garden season at The Farme, where tiny seeds are nurtured into strong, healthy plants ready to thrive in the soil. One of the greatest benefits of seed starting is the ability to grow unique and flavorful produce varieties that are rarely, if ever, found in grocery stores. By starting seeds at home, gardeners can choose from a wide range of heirloom and specialty plants—colorful tomatoes, unusual peppers, tender greens, and fragrant herbs—that offer superior taste, texture, and nutritional value.
Vegetables: Heirloom varieties are at the heart of the garden—chosen for their unique rich flavor, history, and genetic diversity—which helps preserve time-tested traits and resist disease naturally. Hybrids are specifically chosen for production and longevity. The Farme produces a wide array of vegetables and berries, as well as apple and pear trees that offer fresh, seasonal fruit. This thoughtful, regenerative approach ensures that every harvest is not only delicious but also rooted in sustainability and tradition.
Flowers: The Farme’s U-pick flower garden offers a unique and joyful opportunity for the community to connect with nature, beauty, and one another. Designed as a peaceful gathering space, the garden invites visitors to stroll through rows of vibrant, seasonal blooms and handpick their own bouquets. This hands-on experience not only encourages creativity and appreciation for the natural world but also fosters a sense of togetherness as families, friends, and neighbors come to enjoy the simple pleasure of flower picking. Whether for a special occasion or just a moment of serenity, the U-pick garden reflects The Farme’s mission to cultivate community through shared experiences and the rhythms of the land.
Preserving the Harvest: Located at The Farme, Laurie Bennett teaches hands-on workshops focused on the art and importance of food preservation, helping others make the most of their garden harvests. Drawing from years of homesteading experience, Laurie teaches practical techniques for canning, dehydrating, and freezing produce to extend its shelf life and reduce waste. Participants learn how to safely preserve everything from tomatoes and green beans to fruits, herbs, and even prepared meals, capturing the freshness of the season for months to come. These workshops not only equip individuals with valuable self-sufficiency skills but also foster a deeper connection to the food they grow and eat, reinforcing the value of preparation, tradition, and sustainable living.
