2026 Sweet Pea Seed Sowing

Winter is full force these days. In fact, our weatherman says 6 to 8 inches for us this weekend. But inside at The Farme, the 2026 growing season is already underway. This week we began one of our favorite flowers; sweet peas. While it is in the teens outside, we are tucking seeds in dirt inside.

This year we’re especially excited about the sweet pea varieties we’re growing. We purchased our seed from The Farmhouse Flower Farm, (her pictures of a few of the seed packets I purchased from her) a grower we admire not only for her stunning flowers, but for her heart for teaching. She is also the author of Sweet Pea School, a beautiful and practical book dedicated entirely to growing these beloved blooms. I was blessed to take her class last fall on varieties of Sweet Peas. Learning from experienced flower farmers and supporting small seed growers is an important part of how we steward our farm.

Did you know? Sweet peas are more than just pretty flowers—they are one of the most fragrant blooms you can grow. Their soft ruffles, climbing vines, and romantic colors make them a favorite for bouquets, but it’s the scent that truly stops people in their tracks. Light, sweet, and nostalgic, sweet peas are often one the first flowers that visitors lean in to smell during You-Pick season. I am excited to share them with you if I can keep the rabbits far away 🙂

We can’t wait to share these blooms with you. 🌱🌸

Blessings – Laurie
