Title: Blueberry Harvest Bliss – 5 Gallons of Homegrown Goodness!
There’s something incredibly rewarding about walking through rows of lush green blueberry bushes and seeing the branches weighed down with plump, juicy berries. This season, I harvested a whopping 5 gallons of blueberries from our patch at The Farme, and I couldn’t be more thrilled to share the experience.
We have 30 blueberry plants, ranging in age from 2 to 3 years old, and they’ve really started to come into their own. While they’re still relatively young, this year’s harvest has proven that with a little patience, care, and the right practices, even a small plot can produce big results.
Growing with Care – The Organic Way
At The Farme, we’re committed to organic growing practices. That means no synthetic fertilizers or pesticides—just plenty of sunshine, clean water, and natural soil amendments. One of the biggest keys to our success has been mulching with pine bark. Blueberries love acidic soil, and pine bark helps maintain the right pH while keeping the soil moist and the weeds at bay. Plus, it gives the berry patch that neat, tidy look we love.
We feed our plants naturally with compost and occasional doses of organic fish emulsion. We hand-weed, observe the plants closely for pests, and let nature do its thing. Birds are usually our biggest challenge, but we’ve learned that the best pest control might just be a little human help…
The Blueberry Bandit: My Grandson
Speaking of pests—though I say that lovingly—our 5-year-old grandson has become The Farme’s most enthusiastic blueberry picker and eater. The moment he spots those first few berries turning from pale green to deep blue, he’s out there grabbing handfuls. Honestly, he probably eats more than the birds even try to steal! And you know what? I wouldn’t have it any other way.
There’s nothing quite like watching a child enjoy fresh fruit, straight from the bush. No washing, no waiting—just pure joy and sweet juice on his chin. It reminds me exactly why we started growing food this way in the first place.
Looking Ahead
We’re still in the early years of our blueberry patch, but if this season is any indication, the best is yet to come. With more pruning, continued care, and that magical mix of sun, rain, and pine bark mulch, I believe we’re just getting started.
Happy harvesting from The Farme! 💙
